entry. Such manifest should show number of packages, contents,
and weight of packages and name of consignee.
As most of the junks arriving in or leaving
the Colony have to pass an Imperial Chinese Customs Station a reliable check can easily be obtained of the cargo carried by a
junk.
When a Junk clears from a Chinese Customs
Station, the Master or Owner hands in a mnifest to the Customs
and this is checked. The Master or Owner should be ma de to hand in to the Customs and Export Manifest in duplcate, one of which is to be verified and certified as correct by the Officer
of the Customs Station and handed back to the Master for presentation to the Harbour Office as his Import Manifest and from this manifest a summary is made showing each kind of goods imported into the Colony.
With regard to Junks clearing from a port
of the Colony for abroad, i... Chinese waters, they also have to report to the Chinese Customs Station. On applying for their clearance, the Masters or Owners should hand in an Export Manifest, in duplicate, giving the same description as described for an Import Manifest. The serial number from the movement of Junk Register should be given to each manifest.
One Manifest should be retained at the
Harbour Office æ and the duplicate sent to the Kowloon Customs Office for transmission to the Chinese Customs Station passed by the Junks. The Officer in charge of such Station should check this duplicate of the Export Manifest handed to him by the Junk and return it signed as correct. The Harbour Office will then attach this duplicate to the original and summarize therefrom #tatistics of each kind of goods exported from the Colony.
Junks arriving from or leaving for places
out of the Customs control should hand in correct Manifests and the Clearance of a vessel must be detained until the Master or
Owner
